Newsletter 05 – BLAST FROM THE PAST!

Hi to all our riders!

BLAST FROM THE PAST! Remember the good old days of our family fun rides? The bikes, the laughs, the adventures, and of course the memories made along the way!

Well, we’re excited to let you know that this well-loved event is making a comeback! After a few years break, we’re reviving things up and bringing back Kevard Adventures.
We hosted our first ride on the 28th June and our second one is coming up on the 20th September 2026.

So, dust off your helmets, polish those bikes and get ready for a day of family, fun, friendship and a two-wheeled adventure!

Here’s an example of the kind of stuff we’re going to be doing, as well as the newsletters that we will be posting on the website after each ride.

The track was 49km of “one track – see if you can finish” For the majority of riders the track was do-able but as the pics below show, some took on more than they bargained for.

The criterion Yamaha duo set to chase down the teams from Perry Yamaha and Yamaha Distributors. Ronald said he preferred being at the back as his fellow dealers would make good traction as he passed them – eish fighting talk!!

The first tester was after about 1.5km into the route. I will let the picture speak for itself.

After this warm-up we had a great downhill off-camber section which was interesting to say the least. After the drop down out of the plantation, riders had to do a sharp left turn, before heading off to “Craig’s Canal”

Craig’s Canal is a really neat section of a stream which sources near the old hall and winds its way down for a good few hundred meters before it meets up with another stream. Here we made riders do a right turn and ride up the second stream for 150m before they could exit.

One rider roosting his mate behind him while working his way down Craig’s Canal. (Just for those of you interested, it is called Craig’s Canal because the first time we rode this stream, it was ridden upstream and a great friend of mine, Craig, managed it on a 4 x 4 grizzly!!

Now you can see why we made this event a 2 man team event! It gives that song “I get by with a little help from my friends” a whole new meaning. For those who didn’t get their mates to help you, this is what normally happened.

Eish!! From the “rocky hill” we gave everyone a nice breather and had some nice open sections before going into the gums. Black Jack Pass was a must and according to my marshals there were three riders who did not make it up the pass, but insisted on getting their stickers – fearing for their lives, my two marshals gave them their stickers – shame on you guys! (Ha ha)

This mud hole had guys in stitches of laughter – especially marshal Tim. Check his face out in the picture below.

“What are you doing down there?” springs to mind as a good caption, or as Tim works for Toyota, maybe “are you stuck in a hole?” may be more appropriate!!

This rocky section had guys just “throwing” everything at it, including their bikes! The second pic shows a marshal reaching forward to try and help prevent the bike getting scratched on the rocks – only joking – we do care about our riders well being!

The next picture above is how you should have taken the hill. For those of you who can remember the hill in question, look and learn!

Judging from these guys’ faces and all the comments we received, you all, (well almost all of you) had a great time and liked our new venue and format.

Thanks to everyone for making this ride one to remember. Some of you came from as far as JHB, (thanks Des) Pietermaritzburg and let us not forget Scottburgh!
